State Senators receive U.S. Chamber of Commerce awards

U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith have received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Enterprise Award recognizing their support of pro-business policies and legislation.

The Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to members of Congress for their voting record on legislation critical to the business sector.  Both Mississippi Senators were among 55 U.S. Senators recognized for receiving 70 percent or higher score on the U.S. Chamber annual scorecard during the 115th Congress.

U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donohue and Senior Executive Vice President Suzanne Clark presented each of them with their award.

“Every day, all across the country, America’s business owners and job creators serve their communities and strengthen their economies,” said Donohue. “We commend those leaders in Washington who recognize the vital role these businesses play and support them through commonsense, growth-oriented policy. By advancing good legislation, these members of Congress are helping businesses grow and thrive, keeping our economy strong, and promoting the free enterprise system that drives opportunity and prosperity.”

During the second session of the 115th Congress, the Chamber scored members on 10 Senate votes on legislation related to, for example, reducing health care costs, expanding access to capital, reducing regulatory burdens, and combatting the opioid crisis.

“I am honored to accept this award from the U.S. Chamber in recognition of my conservative, pro-growth, and pro-jobs record,” said Wicker. “In this Congress, I will continue to support legislation that supports our nation’s job-creators and helps our economy thrive.”

Hyde-Smith added that she will continue to support legislation that fosters economic growth and encourages job creation.
