Neighbors and friends held candles, cried, and some of them no doubt thought: “What about these kids?”

They say “it takes a village to raise a child,” and while a parent cannot be replaced or brought back, the Ole Miss family is doing all they can.

Tuesday at practice, the Rebels welcomed several of those 11 children who are mourning the loss of their parents, according to RebelGrove.com.

Sarah and John West Perry, children of Dr. Michael and Kim Perry;and Luke Farese, son of Drs. Jason and Lea Farese stayed for the entirety of practice.

But the kids didn’t just watch. With Coach Hugh Freeze as quarterback, he built his own team around them and they took on the Ole Miss defensive backs.

“We’ve got all those kids here today from those families,” Freeze told RebelGrove.com. “I see our guys over there hanging out with them right now. Man, it hit home, for sure. One of the young girls is one of my daughter’s good friends. I told our team, ‘You’re not promised another day. What we can do is rise up today and be the best man we can be, whether it’s a football player or just using the platform that God’s given us to make an impact and difference.’”
