Update: Funeral services released for former Speaker Billy McCoy

The former Speaker of the Mississippi House has passed away.

Billy McCoy, a democrat, was elected to the state House in 1979, serving a total of 28 years. He served as speaker from January 2004 until January 2012.

McCoy died at Tuesday, at the age of 77, at a hospital in Tupelo where he had been for nearly two weeks due to illness.

The visitation and funeral will be held at Gaston Baptist Church in Booneville.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday (11/14) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday (11/15) from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday (11/15)
