Earthquake reported Friday morning in Mississippi
Friday morning at 3:15, Mississippi experienced a 2.8 magnitude earthquake.  Vibrations from the earthquake were felt from Canton, MS to Flowood, MS. No reports of damage were reported.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) says instances such as this makes us realize that damaging earthquakes can happen when we least expect them, sometimes they are barely felt but they can also be large enough to cause widespread damage, disruption, and even death.

MEMA says The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, a national earthquake drill, will be held in October.  The drill is a great opportunity for schools to practice what to do during earthquakes. The drill will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 10:17 a.m.

This year, MEMA’s goal is for more than 300,000 students, teachers and staff to simultaneously practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” which is the recommended action for people to take during an earthquake.
