GOP lose charity ball game, Dems still present trophy to Scalise

Despite a 11-2 decision in favor of the Democrats squad, the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game for Charity was a scene of sportsmanship on both sides of the field.

Wednesday morning’s shooting attack, carried out by James Hodgkinson, could very well have lead to a catastrophe. The main deterrent to the potential massacre was the presence of Capitol Police as security detail for Rep. Steve Scalise, House majority Whip and member of the GOP squad who was wounded in the shooting.

While politics often divides America, and certainly has for the past several years, last night’s game was a time for everyone to come together as countrymen and celebrate a spirit of teamwork and goodwill.

According to Fox News, last year’s game reportedly raised $500,000 for charity. Roll Call, a longtime sponsor of the annual bipartisan game, said tickets were selling at a rate of 500 per hour – and that by Thursday afternoon, more than 20,000 tickets had been sold.

After the game, the Democrats said they would put the trophy in Rep. Scalise’s office. It remains to be seen as to whether or not the good vibes will spread to the floor of Congress.
