Golden Triangle Region sees another boost in economic growth with New Process Steel

COLUMBUS- New Process Steel is expanding in Columbus and investing $7.5 million in the project, creating 50 new jobs.

New Process is a one-of-a-kind metals solutions business that adds value, lean transformation, supply chain excellence, capitol efficiency and environmental stewardship. They will construct a new rail spur and access road and expand the current facility in Columbus.

“The Golden Triangle Region’s economic growth over the last few years continues to set the precedent for companies like New Process to expand and create new jobs for the area’s workforce,” said Gov. Phil Bryant. “The company has been an asset to the region’s economy for many years, and I am pleased its leadership will continue to invest in Mississippi and its people.”

The Mississippi Development Authority is assisting the project for construction purposes. Lowndes County will also provide assistance.

“I would like to thank Governor Bryant, the Mississippi Development Authority, Lowndes County and the Golden Triangle Development LINK for their support in making this expansion a reality,” said Richard Fant, CEO of New Process. “The strength of the state and local leadership, the qualified workforce and a growing industrial base helped us make the decision to expand our operations in Columbus.”

The company currently employees 45 people at the Columbus location. They plan to fill the 50 new jobs by 2018.

New Process started in Dallas, Tx. and has grown to be one of the largest, globally respected metals solutions businesses in North America. They have locations in the U.S. and Mexico and use 100 percent recycled material in more than three-quarters of the steel they consume.
