Damage across the state, more storms Thursday afternoon

Trees are down across multiple parts of the state after strong storms rolled through late Wednesday evening and into the early parts of Thursday morning.

“In Greenville, trees down there,” said Thomas Winesett. “Trees down in Madison, in the Jackson Metro.”

But with the trees coming down, the power lines come right behind them.

“In Brookhaven, numerous trees down, and about three quarters of the town without power,” said Winesett.

Brookhaven schools were closed Thursday to allow for the power to be restored. Madison Central High School had a delayed start to allow for trees to be removed from roads and for some power lines to be cleared.

Another round of severe weather is headed for the Magnolia state, with the heaviest impacts between noon and 8pm Thursday night.
